I like to approach art direction from the lens of storytelling. Finding the theme is always my first approach. I then define the moods of the experience through lighting and color palette that I want our players to feel, and further to set the tone of how the moods get delivered through artistic executions. I also love finding and developing the hooks that reverse the players' expectation, something visually meaningful and unique, like plot twists in stories that alter the pacing and ending. Lastly, I enjoy orchestrating all the visual pieces together and working with my team toward the highest quality. On Call of Duty: WWII, Zombie DLC2, I collaborated with my art leads and developed the Style Guide shown below based on the theme of the 7 Deadly Sins that I set out. We gathered a variety of references and studied how the theme could be visualized in the horror and action adventure genre in the Zombie mode. I put together mood boards for high level theme and visual inspirations, art directed concept arts to establish and illustrated the visions, set the rendering targets, and led the team for the final visual outcomes.
